Days Later… the RAM Fundraiser is Still the Talk of the Town.

I just can’t wait for Denzel to speak”, were some of the comments heard, while guests eagerly passed time in the beautiful Arts Cape foyer, minutes before show time. Just over a hundred people gathered at Artscape last week in support of the Raising Admirable Mentors program, founded by Denzel Pedro Smit. Some of the people present were old high school friends, proud parents of the Mentors being trained and others were recipients of Denzel Pedro Smits influence, whom they describe as a “man who leads by example”.

The RAM fundraiser not only promised guests an evening filled with great entertainment but delivered. The evening started on a high note with Elton Jansen and Denzel Pedro Smit opening by calling each and every mentor by their names in the crowd and explaining exactly why they are born to ‘lead from where they are’. Each Mentor with a unique personality, an area of expertise and an eagerness to develop their leadership skills.

This intimate setting in the Artscape Theater was further electrified by a golden performance from the band ‘Sapphire’, indigenous to Cape Town. Singer, Songwriter, and Composer, Wilmot Fredericks, took us to church with his beautiful voice echoing into the seats, while the audience sang along. The night ended just as electrified as it started with a performance by Top Dog SA, who just released their new album ‘Griqua’, had the entire audience tapping their feet, just about ready for the weekend.

Each musician present and each person who contributed to RAM’s cause proved one thing, in the midst of a country plagued with crisis, there are still people who believe in investing in the dreams of others, and cultivating healthy leadership in South Africa.

Ever since the RAM programs birth three years ago, each and every year has welcomed new development and growth. The RAM program has been a real catalyst for change in the community. Making it possible for young people to not only dream but action their dreams through equipping themselves, then to go out there and equip others.

Mauricia Abdol, who has been following the program and Denzel for a while, explains that “Denzel always encourages me to support those who are already dancing”. Abdol was endorsed by Denzel, for an overseas fellowship program, though she was not a part of the RAM program. It comes as no surprise that the RAM program is as efficient as it is effective in driving change, the founder leads by example.

The 2017 RAM team is set to depart for Vienna, Austria and surrounding countries on the 24th of August 2017. These prospective mentors are then presented with the opportunity to exercise all the knowledge and experience they have acquired in a diverse environment, in the midst of accomplished leaders who are making great strides in their field of expertise.
