The Power to Press

By:  Tatum-Lee

Most of the time, when we really going through the storms of life, the last thing we want to hear is “Have faith!”, “Be strong” and “It’s going to be okay”. These words can be agonizing when you’re down in the valley, but pretty powerful when you actually begin to believe it. The truth is…seasons don’t last forever. But our faith in God has to! He has given you the power to press through every valley, climb every mountain and brave the toughest storms.

In the word of God,we have such great examples of people who pressed through their trials and circumstances. God honored their faith and their tenacity to pursue him. Whatever the costs. They were fully persuaded that God can and will make a way for them, they pressed! Until they got His full attention.

  1. A blind Bartimaeus

As Jesus was passing by, a blind beggar named Bartimaeus was sitting by the roadside. “When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, ‘Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!’ Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, ‘Son of David, have mercy on me.'” Jesus stopped, called him, and he received his sight. Then Jesus commended him, saying, “Your faith has healed you” (Mark 10:46-52).

Bartimaeus wanted one thing with all his heart. He wanted to see. He let nothing stop him. “Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet” but he “shouted all the more.” (Matthew 20:31 says “shouted all the louder”.) We don’t know how long this went on; it could have been for some time. He would not be kept from the healing he sought. When Jesus commended his faith, I believe Jesus was saying that he had shown his faith by his persistence in the face of obstacles. Our faith is demonstrated by action, and this blind beggar demonstrated his by strong, persistent action.

  1. The woman with the issue of blood

On another occasion, as Jesus was walking, ” A large crowd followed and pressed around him.” A woman, who had been “subject to bleeding for twelve years”, pressed in, touched his cloak and was healed. Jesus asked who had touched him, and she fell at his feet, “trembling with fear.” Then Jesus said, “Your faith has healed you” (Mark 5:24-34).

This woman persisted in the face of a number of obstacles:

  1. Women were not supposed to press in through a crowd of men.
  2. She was ceremonially unclean, and it was unlawful for her to touch anyone who was clean.
  3. She was probably weak after a twelve-year illness involving loss of blood.
  4. She was afraid.
  5. Her urgent need motivated her to overcome all these obstacles and receive the healing she desired. Again I believe that it was because she pressed in, in spite of heavy obstacles, that Jesus praised her faith.

She knew how to get the Lord’s attention, even in her weakness , she was so strong!

3.The Canaanite woman

A Canaanite woman from the region of Tyre and Sidon came to Jesus, “crying out, ‘Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is suffering terribly from demon-possession.’ Jesus did not answer a word. So his disciples came to him and urged him, ‘Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us.’ He answered, ‘I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.’ The woman came and knelt before him. ‘Lord, help me!’ she said. He replied, ‘It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to their dogs.’ ‘Yes, Lord’ she said, ‘but even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table.’ Then Jesus answered, ‘Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.’ And her daughter was healed from that very hour” (Matthew 15:22-28).

Again, we can see great persistence in spite of rejection. And again, Jesus saw her persistence, her pressing in, as evidence of “great faith.”

These are only three examples. What about the paralytic man? What about Daniel? WHAT ABOUT YOU? The word of God teaches us that, “God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent; Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?”(Numbers 23:19)

There are some situations which will require you to fight family! You need to press through, stand firm on the promises of God and do not cease in pursuing Him! Press for your breakthrough, for your family, for a job, for your marriage. God loves it when we diligently seek Him.

Prayer:

Father forgive me for wanting to take the easy way out at times. When the pressures of life mount up against me, be my strength.Help me to sit at your feet and diligently seek you. Whether it is days, or weeks or months. Help me to continually serve you passionately.Today ,I ask that you would strengthen my character, so that in the days of trouble and great distress. I will stand strong as I wait on you.
